Sbalzato in un lontano futuro il giocatore impersonerà un Guardiano, uno dei soldati che abitano la Torre all'interno della Città, l'ultimo avamposto umano rimasto sulla Terra. La situazione è degenerata quando l'umanità si è lasciata alle spalle la così detta Età dell'Oro, un periodo di eccezionali progressi tecnologici e colonizzazione spaziale a cui sono seguite devastanti catastrofi.

Il sistema solare, infatti, si è popolato di nemici sempre più numerosi e potenti, l'uomo viene decimato e solo grazie all'intervento del gigantesco Viaggiatore i pochi sopravvissuti riescono a ritirarsi all'interno delle mura della Città. Dall'alto della Torre, sovrastato dalla misteriosa sfera che protegge l'avamposto sottostante, il giocatore partirà per affrontare le minacce che popolano il nostro e gli altri pianeti che girano attorno al Sole
